The Art of Sculpting
Sculpting course  by Mr. Frank Voorbraak (9 days)
June 3 to June 11, 2011

Discover and enjoy the art of sculpting

Like in previous years, Frank Voorbraak, living and working in France, will give sculpting courses at Domaine Troteligotte. Frank has now worked for 29 years as a sculptor in many places in Western Europe. At young age, Frank discovered the art of stone sculpting. During his training in France, a famous French sculpting artist introduced him to the many intricacies involved in sculpting. His many years of experience have led to mastering the techniques of sculpting to perfection.  His credo: “A good sculptor needs to master the fundamental carving techniques, with respect for the material (stone) and the tools.” Especially for novice sculptors, but also for advanced ones, a basic sculpting course is of essential importance. During the course you will be taught to use various sculpting techniques, “read” the stone and to correctly use your tools. Giving a perfect finish to your sculpture will also be an important part of the course. With his crafty approach and great enthusiasm he will introduce his students to his passion for sculpting.
Various materials will be available, like marble, freestone and limestone. Depending on your choice of material, we will ask a compensation starting from €11.50. If you have specific requirements regarding the type of material or dimensions, please inform earliest possible. In most cases we will be able to meet your demands. Of course we will inform you well in advance about the extra charges for special materials. If needed you can rent your tools during the course. The charges for tool rental are €26.50.

Course program
Arrival: afternoon of the day prior to the first course day
18.00: welcome and acquaintance
19.30: welcome dinner
On the first day of the course, you will be introduced into the carving techniques. On the second day you will learn how to define shapes using clay and the importance of working based on preset idea. Together with Frank and depending on talent, experience and diligence you will then determine the final goal of the course. From day three onwards you will work out your ideas and improve your techniques. The course ends with a presentation and photographing of the finished sculptures. During the last evening you will enjoy a lovely good bye dinner.
A course day consists of two parts of about three hours with intermittent tea and coffee breaks. The group has a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve participants. This course can be perfectly combined with a holiday in France for the whole family or together with friends, even if they do not participate in the course.
